Synopsis
The client needed a consolidated information system that retrieved data from different train tracking systems to display information on the trains running and their associated wagons. The new digital information was to be filtered, processed, and presented in a uniform style for the end-user. AdfarTech developed APIs to consolidate data from various systems. The Track & Trace API provided information on train schedules and wagons’ status in rail freight transport. The one-stop digital solution helped improve data quality while consolidating information from various existing information systems.
About the client
The client is a provider of information and telecommunications services for a German railway company.
Business Challenge
In the rail freight transport at an international transport and logistics company, freight trains run 24/7. Customers need to know the status of these trains running and the associated wagons. Typically, this information is captured and processed by different IT systems within the client’s system. The data could be raw, irrelevant, or even missing for some of the customers. The major drawback of such a system was that the data had to be fetched from various systems. The solution required would process the data in all measures and improve data quality, compared to other existing information systems.
Our Solution
AdfarTech was entrusted with the task of developing business APIs to improve data quality. The API aimed to offer a consolidated database as a single source of truth, calculated from information collated across systems. The Track & Trace API improved data quality, simplified data usage, and improved delivery schedules.
The central concept of the API is the tracking event (a change in the state of a car or a train at a certain time and place). The API processes messages from different systems present them in various formats and convert them into relatable tracking events for the end-users.
